San Jose's powerhouse of a professional eater Joey "Jaws" Chestnut ate a record-breaking 182 wings in 10 minutes to win the Hooters World Wing Eating competition Tuesday, officials said.
This was the third year Chestnut won the competition, besting fellow professional eaters Adrian "The Rabbit" Morgan, who ate 174 wings and Matt "Megatoad" Stonie, who chomped down on 165 wings. In addition to eating the most wings, Chestnut beat his previous wing-eating record by three wings.
The champ is gearing up for round two of wing-eating, with National Chicken Wing Day and a competition set for Tuesday. In support of Chestnut's efforts, Hooters will be offering an all-you-can-eat wing option at participating locations throughout the country.
Chestnut has made quite a name for himself with his eating abilities. He is currently ranked number one in the world by the International Federation of Competitive Eating. On July 4, Chestnut ate more hot dogs than any of his opponents, narrowly defeating his competitor Matt "Megatoad" Stonie, who he also beat in Atlanta. He successfully ate 61 hot dogs to Stonie's 56, making it his eighth consecutive win. His last record, however was set in May, when he ate a record 12.8 pounds of deep fried asparagus at the Deep Fried Asparagus Eating Championship in Stockton.
