BURLINGAME -- A man was hit and killed by a train at the Burlingame Caltrain station Monday night, officials said.

The collision was reported around 9:14 p.m., at the Broadway station, and trains have been stopped in both directions while emergency crews respond to the scene.

It is unclear why the man, who has not been identified, was on the tracks.

A bus bridge between San Mateo and Millbrae was temporarily set up for passengers and BART also accepted Caltrain tickets.

This is the sixth fatality involving Caltrain this year. In 2013 there were 13 fatalities; of those, 11 were determined by the coroner to be caused by suicide and two were accidental, according to Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn.
