FREMONT -- A woman was hospitalized Wednesday after two gunmen broke into her house, bound her head with duct tape and robbed the home while her infant granddaughter was inside, police said.

The home-invasion robbery call came to police about 2:40 p.m. from a home on the 4200 block of Deep Creek Road between Shylock Drive and Othello Road, police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

The 55-year-old woman and her 9-month-old granddaughter were inside when two men entered through an unlocked rear door, police said.

The woman, in the kitchen cooking when the men broke in, told officers she was held at gunpoint, then bound with duct tape around the head.

The men took some items and fled in an unknown direction, possibly out the front door onto Deep Creek Road, Bosques said.

The infant, who was in another room, was not injured during the home invasion.

At some point, the woman woke up from possibly blacking out, managed to crawl to her cell phone and called a family member, who in turn called 911.

Police and paramedics responded and took the woman to a hospital with minor injuries, including bruising and soreness, Bosques said.

"Her head was bound with duct tape and she had difficulty breathing during the incident," Bosques said. "This is a very scary incident and we feel extremely bad for the victim and her family. No one should ever have to go through something like this. Be assured we are dedicating the necessary resources to this investigation and will do everything we can to locate the individuals responsible."

Another Fremont residence was targeted in a home invasion on Saturday when a suspect reportedly duct-taped and sexually assaulted a woman while her adult daughter was bound by duct tape in another room.

Police arrested a Fremont man, Jamala Morris, 34, as suspect in the case.

Authorities say Morris broke into a residence on Paseo Padre Parkway and was waiting in one of the bedrooms when the mother and her daughter arrived home near midnight Saturday. Detectives arrested him about 10:45 a.m. Sunday at his residence.
