NEWARK -- Newark police say they arrested an 18-year-old man on Saturday for stealing nearly $4,000 worth of property from Lincoln Elementary School.
Police say they caught Maxx Moran rifling through a teacher's desk in a classroom at the Bettencourt Street school on Saturday morning while investigating reports of a suspicious person on campus.
Officers detained Moran in classroom No. 23 and he later admitted to breaking inside, police said.
A search of Moran's car netted stolen items valued at approximately $3,595, including two computers, two monitors, two keyboards and a laptop.
Moran was booked into jail on burglary charges.
"This is a perfect example of when the community and the police department work together," a news release said. "The Newark Police Department encourages community members to report suspicious activity in their neighborhoods."
