BURLINGAME -- A 23-year-old man hit and killed Aug. 4 by a Caltrain in Burlingame was identified as San Jose resident Dipesh Yadav, according to the San Mateo County Coroner's Office.

Yadav was hit by a southbound train about 9:15 p.m. and pronounced dead at the scene at the Broadway station, Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said. Little more was known one week after the fatal incident, and Dunn said Monday that investigators had no new information about why the man was on the tracks that evening.

According to the San Mateo County Coroner's Office, the man remained a John Doe for nearly a week before he was finally identified. Investigation into the man's death was also pending Monday at the coroner's office.

The incident marked the sixth fatality involving Caltrain in 2014, Dunn said. In 2013 there were 13 fatalities; of those, 11 were determined by the coroner to be caused by suicide and two were accidental.
