A downtown San Jose Mexican restaurant will be closed indefinitely as a result of a Saturday afternoon fire that caused extensive damage, according to the San Jose Fire Department.
Fire crews responded around 2:50 p.m. to a fire at the Guadalajara Restaurant and Bakery at 452 E. Empire St. near North 10th Street, San Jose fire Capt. Reggie Williams said. The blaze started in the kitchen and extended to the roof before it was extinguished a little more than an hour later.
The restaurant's owner and servers were inside the business at the time of the fire, but there were no injuries. Fire officials were unsure if any patrons were at the eatery while the fire was brought under control.
The blaze caused "significant damage" and the restaurant has been closed for repairs and inspection "until further notice," according to Williams.
