A 25-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning on allegations he ran naked through traffic after crashing on Highway 101 in Petaluma.

Alexander Jon Leonard, whom police described as a resident of Hawthorne in Los Angeles County, was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and refusing police commands. His bail was set at $10,000.

The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 near East Washington Street, the California Highway Patrol said. The CHP said a Chevy pickup was seen weaving in traffic and blocking other cars from passing before it crashed into a guard rail at a low speed.

The driver emerged from the truck, took off all his clothes and started running around in the traffic lanes, said CHP Officer Marcus Hawkins. The driver resisted efforts to arrest him, so police used stun guns to subdue him, Hawkins said.

The driver, identified as Leonard, was taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital for medical evaluation before being booked into jail.

The northbound lanes of Highway 101 were blocked for about 10 to 15 minutes during the incident, the CHP said.

Police determined that the truck was a rental.

Leonard remained in custody Sunday evening. An initial court appearance was tentatively scheduled for Tuesday morning in Sonoma County Superior Court. ------ (c)2014 The Marin Independent Journal (Novato, Calif.) Visit The Marin Independent Journal (Novato, Calif.) at www.marinij.com
