FREMONT -- Homes and businesses were briefly evacuated and traffic was jammed in the city's East Industrial neighborhood Wednesday after construction crews hit a gas line in the area.

No injuries were reported, police said.

About 11:25 a.m., construction crews working near the intersection of Warm Springs Boulevard and Mission Court hit the line in the roadway, police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

PG&E workers arrived shortly after and fixed the broken line about 1 p.m.

Warm Springs was shut down between Fulton Place and Mission Boulevard but reopened shortly after.

As a precautionary measure, some businesses and residences in the area were evacuated while others were contacted and asked to shelter in place. They were allowed to return to their homes shortly after the gas line was repaired.
