DALY CITY -- A Santa Rosa man was killed and two other men seriously injured when all three fell off a seaside cliff in Daly City early Saturday morning.
The three tumbled 250 to 300 feet down a hillside just west of the intersection of Westridge Avenue and Palisades Drive about 4:30 a.m., according to the North (San Mateo) County Fire Authority. After being rescued by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter from the remote beach below, two of the men were taken to a trauma center. The third, Sean Carrington, 29, was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:09 a.m., according to the San Mateo County Coroner's Office.
Daly City police don't know how or why the three men fell off the cliff, spokesman Sgt. Harold Rolfes said. However, the incident is not being investigated as a crime, he said.
Authorities did not release any details about the two injured men. Nor did they release what injuries they sustained or their current condition.
The fire authority, which serves Brisbane, Daly City and Pacifica, was alerted to the incident at 4:35 a.m. and dispatched six fire companies, one special operations rescue unit, two transport ambulances and the Coast Guard helicopter to the scene. Firefighters treated the patients on the beach, then had them taken by the helicopter to a landing zone where they could be picked up by the ambulances.
The rescue operation took about five hours, the fire authority said in a statement.
