SAN JOSE -- A small brush fire burned about a quarter of an acre alongside Highway 87 early Tuesday morning between Alma Avenue and Almaden Expressway.

The far right northbound lane was closed briefly because the brush fire was on the right shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The blaze was first reported at 4:46 a.m. and was knocked down at 5:14 a.m., according to San Jose fire Capt. Rob Brown. The cause of the blaze, which burned grass and trees, is undetermined.

There were no injuries or structures damaged by the fire.

By 6:20 a.m., all lanes of 87 were open.
