CHINO, Calif.—A former Orange County reserve sheriff's deputy has been convicted of threatening two slow-playing golfers at a Chino Hills course.
A San Bernardino County jury deliberated for several hours Thursday before finding Raymond Yi guilty of making a criminal threat. He faces up to three years in prison for the felony count.
Yi was acquitted of five other counts, including assault with a firearm.
Yi was arrested in July 2005 after two men accused him of pointing a gun at them and flashing his sheriff's badge. Prosecutors said Yi threatened the men after one of them hit his ball into a water hazard, then refused to get it.
Defense attorney John D. Barnett has maintained that Yi was acting in self defense after one of the golfers swung a club at him.
