SAN FRANCISCO—San Francisco's new Transbay Terminal is taking a big step closer to reality.
The Transbay Joint Powers Authority voted Thursday to sign a deal worth $105 million with an architectural firm to design a facility for bus and train service at San Francisco's First and Mission streets.
Construction of a temporary facility at Fremont and Folsom streets is to begin this winter and be completed in 2009.
The existing terminal would then be torn down and work would begin on its replacement. The new terminal is scheduled to open in 2014.
The agreement with Connecticut-based Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects will extend through the construction process.
