OAKLAND -- The critically-acclaimed movie about the killing of Oscar Grant III at the Frutivale BART station had a trailer premiere on the YahooMovies site Friday afternoon.
The 2 minute, 19 second trailer gives a glimpse of the movie "Fruitvale Station" which was honored at the Sundance movie festival as it won both the audience and grand jury awards.
The movie, directed by Richmond-native Ryan Coogler, takes a peak into the life of Grant in the hours just before he was killed by former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle.
The movie also looks at the struggles Grant endured as he tried to turn his life around after having scrapes with the law and after having spent time in jail.
Grant was killed after Mehserle shot him in the back as Grant laid prone on the Frutivale Station platform. Mehserle was charged with murder but a Los Angeles jury found him guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Mehserle served less than a year in jail.
