OAKLAND -- An Oakland police officer shot a robbery suspect who ran from a traffic stop Sunday night, police said, while the vehicle's driver escaped.

At 11:43 p.m. Sunday, the officer pulled over a vehicle in the 2000 block of 62nd Avenue that had reportedly been involved in a nearby robbery, according to Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson.

One passenger ran from the vehicle and the officer ran after him. The officer shot him after seeing that he had a gun, Watson said. He was taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

A gun was recovered at the scene, Watson said.

Police are still looking for the driver, who left his vehicle and fled, Watson said.
