OAKLAND -- Spirit Airlines plans to offer nonstop routes connecting Oakland International Airport to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport starting April 25.
This is part of a four-city expansion by the budget airline that began in September with nonstop routes from Dallas to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The airline will also expand services from Dallas to Los Angeles International Airport in April.
The airline, known for its $9 fare club, has come under fire for its carry-on baggage fee, which varies from $25 to as much as $100. It is scheduled to rise by at least $5 on most fares in November.
Spirit has been flying nonstop from Oakland to Las Vegas since last year. Oakland is also the only Northern California airport offering the airline's services.
