OAKLAND -- A man on parole for attacking his mother in 2010 was charged Monday with the fatal stabbing of a 26-year-old woman early Friday at an East Oakland apartment, authorities said.
Jamaal Prince, 32, of Berkeley, is charged with murder in the death of Jennifer Kingeter, of Berkeley, who was slain in an apartment at 5800 Walnut St. Oakland police Sgt. Randy Brandwood said Prince has admitted his involvement in the killing.
Kingeter, who was known as "Jessica," was found about 2:30 a.m. Friday in a second-floor apartment at 5800 Walnut St., a building where police said a friend of Prince's lived. Prince, who had cuts to his hands, was at the apartment when police arrived and was later arrested.
Brandwood said Prince and Kingeter were acquaintances but he did not know how long they had known each other. The stabbing ended a dispute the two had had, but police would not say what it was over.
Police were told Kingeter was a ballet student.
Besides the murder count, Prince is also charged, for sentencing enhancement purposes, with having five prior felony convictions, authorities said. One was in August 2010 for assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm for beating and choking his mother, then 59, in March 2010 at the apartment they shared in Berkeley. He was sentenced to more than four years in prison but paroled earlier this year.
The other prior convictions are for vandalism in 2008, possession of a firearm by a felon
