A live 5-foot alligator was found guarding 34 pounds of processed dried marijuana when the Alameda County Sheriffs Office Special Investigation Unit did a probation compliance check in the 19000 block of Mount Jasper Drive in Castro Valley, Calif., on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013. The processed dried marijuana and alligator were in an acrylic tank, in the bedroom, which acted as a deterrent to would be marijuana thieves. The alligator, "Mr Teeth," was acquired by the suspect Assif Mayar, 32, in 1996 to commemorate the death of Rapper Tupac Shakur. Mayar was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, and Mr. Teeth was taken to the Oakland Zoo.

CASTRO VALLEY -- Police conducting a probation compliance check at a Castro Valley home on Tuesday found 34 pounds of marijuana inside the house and a 5-foot alligator reportedly guarding the drugs.
Deputies with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office found the pot and the gator in a bedroom of the home on the 19000 block of Mount Jasper Road during a routine check, said Sgt. J.D. Nelson.
Nelson said the gator, which was in a tank, was likely used as a deterent for burglars.
A resident of the home, Assif Mayar, 32, was arrested and transported to the Santa Rita Jail.
The alligator, who Mayar named "Mr. Teeth," was taken to the Oakland Zoo.
