Volunteers are preparing for the collection of gift-filled shoe boxes, filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items, for millions of needy children overseas.
This year-round project is part of the international Christian relief organization, Samaritan's Purse, which is headed by Franklin Graham.
During National Collection Week, Nov. 12-19, people can drop off packed shoe boxes at two locations.
The Chinese Independent Baptist Church, 280 8th St., Oakland, will be accepting boxeses from 1-3 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. -2 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m.-noon Sunday.
Call 800-535-5949 for more information.
Gift boxes can also be brought to the Central Baptist Church, 2133 Central Ave., Alameda. Call 800-353-5949 for hours and more information.
Also, Operation Christmas Child uses tracking technology to allow participants to follow their box to the destination country where it will be given to a child in need. To register shoe box gifts and find out the destination country, use the "Follow Your Box" donation form found at www.sanaritanspurse.org/occ.
