The Oakland Tech High football team broke open a close game with a 20-0 run in the second half to beat Skyline 41-14 on Nov. 3 and remain undefeated in the Oakland Athletic League.

Oakland Tech hosts McClymonds (6-3, 4-0 OAL) on Nov. 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Skyline (5-4, 2-2 OAL) fell behind by 14 points, but tied the game late in the first half. Erik Thomas started Tech's second-half scoring with a 3-yard run. Then Jeremiah Varnedoe scored on a 6-yard run, and after a Zach Spindle point-after-touchdown kick and field goals of 29 and 27 yards, the Bulldogs had a 34-14 lead.

The Bulldogs (7-2, 4-0) had four interceptions, including one by defensive back Nayo Johnson that was returned for a 68-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

Varnedoe led Oakland Tech in rushing with 74 yards. Skyline running back Tyrone Campbell paced all ballcarriers with 197 yards on 22 carries.

San Leandro 30, Bishop O'Dowd 26: The Pirates avoided a winless season with a victory over the Dragons at Chabot College in Hayward on Nov. 1 in the West Alameda County Conference-Foothill Division finale for both teams.

Bishop O'Dowd will travel to face No. 8 seed Acalanes (7-3) in a North Coast Section Division III first-round playoff game on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. The Dragons are the No. 9 seed.

Pirates linebacker Fa'afetai Leuelu sacked Bishop O'Dowd quarterback Dominic Miroglio on fourth-and-goal from the 5-yard line with 1:17 left to preserve the victory on Nov. 1.

The Pirates (1-9, 1-4) nearly blew a 22-point lead, but their defense clamped down with four stops after Bishop O'Dowd (6-4, 2-3) got a first down on the Pirates' six.

After a fumble recovery in the end zone by Christian Carter gave San Leandro a 30-8 lead midway through the third quarter, the Dragons rallied with Corey Nuti, Isaiah Johnson and Antonio Burnette all scoring touchdowns.

Miroglio returned to action after missing more than a month of action with a shoulder injury.

His first throw was a 52-yard completion to Dominic Gomes down the left sideline that set up Johnson's 10-yard touchdown run.

The Dragons converted on the two-point conversion to led 8-0 less than two minutes into the game, but their offense went stagnant for the rest of the first half.

The Pirates controlled the second quarter to take a 17-8 halftime lead.

A blocked punt for a safety gave the Pirates their first points of the game early in the second quarter.

Working with short fields, San Leandro scored on its next two possessions as quarterback Stephen Johnson threw touchdown passes to Keone Foumai and Dream Greene.

Mt. Eden 31, Piedmont 0: Devante McGowan had 19 carries for 200 yards and two touchdowns as the Monarchs beat the host Highlanders on Nov. 2 in a WACC-Shoreline Division game.

Mt. Eden had a 10-0 lead early in the second half before McGowan scored on runs of 1 and 6 yards to help put the game away for the Monarchs (6-4, 4-2 WACC-Shoreline).

Piedmont (5-5, 1-4) is the No. 12 seed in the NCS Division IV playoffs and will travel to face Ft. Bragg on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. Ft. Bragg (9-1) is the No. 5 seed in Division IV.

Cross Country

WACC Championships: Julian Frost's fourth-place finish helped the Piedmont boys cross country team place fifth with a score of 128. Frost, a senior, finished with a time of 15 minutes, 49.7 seconds for the 3.0 mile Hayward High course on Nov. 3.

Sophia Mills' 10th-place finish led the Highlanders girls team to a fifth-place finish (112 points). Mills, a sophomore, produced a time of 19:49.9.
