OAKLAND -- A 48-year-old man shot to death early Friday in West Oakland has been identified by police as Kendrick Scott, who lived in another part of the city.

Scott was found about 1:48 a.m. Friday in the 1300 block of Willow Street, next to Willow Park by a passer-by. The passer-by went to a nearby fire station and contacted firefighters who returned to the site and contacted police. Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Scott had a downtown address and they are trying to determine what he was doing in the area where he was killed.

No motive has been established and no arrests have been made so far, police said.

Scott's killing was the city's 111th homicide of the year. There have been four since then, bringing the count to 115, five more than all of last year.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money in the killing. Anyone with information may call investigators at 510-238-3821 or a tip line at 510-777-2805. Tips can also be sent anonymously via text message. Text to 888-777 and include the words TipOaklandPD.
