OAKLAND -- A 21-year-old man police said suffers from autism was robbed of his backpack, cell phone and other items Thursday morning while waiting for a bus in the Eastlake district. He was not injured.

The strong-arm robbery happened about 6:15 a.m. in the 800 block of International Boulevard.

The man was waiting for a bus to go to school when he was confronted by two men who demanded his valuables, police said.

The man gave the robbers his backpack, which contained books and supplies. The men then rummaged through his pockets taking his cell phone and other items before running away northbound on Eighth Avenue.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $1,500 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the robbers. Anyone with information about the case may call police at 510-238-3326 or a tip line at 510-773-2805.
