OAKLAND -- Police on Wednesday offered a reward and released a sketch of a man who tried to kidnap a 25-year-old woman Dec. 17 as she was walking near the Fruitvale BART station.

The woman was able to struggle free and escape.

Police said the attempted abduction happened about 5:30 p.m. as the woman walked alone in the 3100 block of East 12th Street.

The woman told investigators the man, who she did not know, came up behind her, grabbed her and tried to force her into a nearby waiting car that contained at least two other men.

The attempted abductor is described as a black man, in his early 20s, between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 8, clean shaven with a medium complexion, thin build, brown eyes and brown hair styled in dreadlocks. He wore a maroon color hooded sweatshirt and bluejeans.

The car was described as a black sedan with tinted windows. No weapons were seen.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $2,500 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3641 or a tip line at 510-637-0298.
