ALAMEDA -- Temidayo Yussuf scored a game-high 21 points as the top-seeded St. Joseph Notre Dame boys basketball team edged Head-Royce 63-56 in the semifinals of the North Coast Section Division V playoffs on Wednesday.

Justin Brown added 14 points for the host Pilots and Lamont Banks finished with 12. St. Joseph will play No. 3 University-San Francisco in the championship on Saturday at Albany High at 3 p.m.

St. Joseph (21-11) raced to a 13-2 lead to start the game, but the No. 4 Jayhawks (24-5) stayed competitive as consecutive 3-pointers by Ryan Diew and Scott Miller helped cut the lead to 13-10 late in the first quarter.

By halftime, the Pilots had improved their advantage to 32-22, only to see Head-Royce stage another comeback. Diew, whose team trailed 43-41 with 22.7 seconds left in the third quarter, appeared to have tied the score with a nifty lay-up. A player control foul, however, negated the basket, and the Jayhawks never got closer.

Marc Voisenat's fall-away jumper with 1:37 left looked to put the Pilots safely in command at 58-47, though Head-Royce made one last-ditch effort to trim the lead to five points with 30 seconds left.

Diew led Head-Royce with 16 points. Nico Dorado, who was 8-for-11 from the free-throw line, finished with 14. Miller added 12.
