OAKLAND _ Customs officials have seized another bogus shipment at the Port of Oakland, this time 8,000 pairs of counterfeit Nike tennis shoes, worth over $1 million if they were sold as the real thing.
The latest bust happened May 27; earlier in the month, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers using sophisticated X-ray equipment uncovered a $22 million shipment of fake goods from China.
The shoes were listed as: "polyresin figures," said customs director of field operations Richard Vigna.
The X-ray equipment was installed at the port after the 9-11 terrorist attack and is used to screen shipments coming into the port.
