OAKLAND — A 17-year-old San Leandro boy who died after being shot in the 4500 block of Bancroft Avenue in Oakland shortly before 4:15 a.m. Saturday has been identified as Gerald Catalan, Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said today.

Responding officers found Catalan suffering from gunshot wounds, Thomason said.

Catalan then was transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland, Thomason said.

Thomason said Catalan died at some point over the weekend but he doesn't know the exact time of death.

A second victim also was shot and hospitalized in the incident but is expected to survive, Thomason said.

Thomason said the motive for the assault is not yet known.
