A 30-year-old man shot to death in East Palo Alto puzzled investigators when he vanished from the crime scene only to reappear there hours later, police said.

East Palo Alto police were called about 1:10 p.m. Sunday to the 2300 block of Glen Way after gunshot-detection microphones were activated in the area. Officers found evidence of a shooting but no victim, police said.

About three hours later, officers were called back to the area for a report of a man down and found Edmund Beverly, a city resident, dead in a spot they had already checked, police said. Further details were not immediately released.
