HAYWARD -- Restrooms on the south side of San Lorenzo Community Park will be demolished Wednesday.

The restrooms will be replaced sometime in March, according to Larry Lepore, Hayward Area Recreation and Park District superintendent. After the old restrooms are torn down, some work needs to be done before new ones can go in, including installing utility lines and building a pathway and parking that are compliant with the American with Disabilities Act.

The park district will provide portable toilets while the work is being done. The restrooms being replaced, which were built in 1965, are near the softball fields and softball snack bars at the park, commonly known as the Duck Pond. The park's other restrooms in the community center and at the north end near the playground and soccer field will remain open.

The new restrooms will cost $203,625, which includes the new parking and path, Lepore said.
