Malik Watson completed 20 of 29 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the host Comets (4-2) over the 49ers (2-4) in the Bay Valley Conference opener for both schools.

Contra Costa dominated the game from the start with Watson scoring on a 1-yard sneak in the first quarter. On the ensuing possession, the Comet defense forced a three-and-out deep in Yuba territory and after the punt, Davonte Sapp-Lynch scored on a 26-yard run. Sapp-Lynch rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns in the game.

"It was a great win," Watson said. "Our offense did a great job of executing plays. We left some points on the field but we can get better from that."

Contra Costa's defense played every bit as well as the offense, holding the 49ers to 183 yards in total offense and forcing three turnovers. Yuba's first two touchdowns were an 88-yard kickoff return by De'Arius Dow and a 4-yard run by DaTwon Melvin set up by a fumble recovery. Late in the game, the 49ers went on a 15-play, 79-yard drive for their final score.
