ALAMEDA — The public will get a chance to discuss proposed pedestrian and bicycle route improvements near Lincoln Middle School at a meeting Thursday with the Alameda Public Works Department.

Construction on Fernside Boulevard between Encinal Avenue and Adams Street is to begin in June and be completed in September.

Highlights of the project include:

-Landscaped planters to replace the existing orange traffic guides.

-Addition of bike lanes and re-striping of lanes.

-Elimination of the right turn and concrete median at the corner of Fernside Boulevard and Encinal Avenue to allow for U-turns.

-In-pavement flashing lights at the school crosswalk at San Jose Avenue.

Funds for the project are drawn from the Caltrans Safe Routes to School Grant Program and Alameda County's Measure B transportation funds. The meeting is to be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Middle School media center, 1250 Fernside Blvd.
