A body found earlier this week on a rural Castro Valley road was identified Thursday as that of Lonnie Morris of San Francisco, 28, authorities said.

Morris' body was found Monday about 1:30 p.m. on the shoulder of Redwood Road, about five miles from Skyline Boulevard.

The Alameda County Coroner's Office said Morris died of gunshot wounds. The case is being investigated as a homicide, Sheriff's Sgt. Mary Neideffer said.
