OAKLAND -- Figure skating star Johnny Weir will headline a show June 2 at Oakland Ice Center to end the first leg of a national tour that involves promising local talent.

The "Ice Dreams" stop in Oakland also features reigning national champion Max Aaron and 2011 national runner-up Ricky Dornbush as well as San Jose teenager Polina Edmunds, the 2013 junior U.S. champion.

Weir, 28, has returned from retirement to try to qualify for his third Winter Olympics, scheduled in February in Sochi, Russia. The celebrity skater said "Ice Dreams" is part of his push to regain form that led to winning three national titles.

"Ice shows give us the opportunity to forget ourselves and just perform," Weir said Thursday. "They are amazing opportunities to be in front of audience to try out new material, to show new costuming. It's an incredible opportunity to do what we do without the stress of worrying about what a judge is going to say."

Weir, who is trying to perfect quadruple jumps in order to compete on the world stage again, has included triple axels in his Oakland performance as well signature spins and steps.

"In an hour and half show I go from iconoclast to Swan Lake to David Guetta and Sia and then Lady Gaga's "Born this Way" and "Everybody Dance Now," he said. "It's a good thing to practice going to so many different characters in such a short time."

He plans to have fun to a point. "There are no judges but we are all terribly serious and get the jitters before we go out. When people come out they want to see a show and not falling so the pressure is still there."
