Kohl's generous to Kiwanis
On behalf of the Surf City Santa Cruz Kiwanis, I would like to thank Kohl's and their associates for the generosity and support shown to us in regard to our adopted families for the Christmas season. Once again Kohl's has shown Kiwanis their community support by assisting us with the shopping and offering an additional discount. This additional discount allows us to stretch our budget and buy clothing for more families within the county. Both managers I worked with, Nick and Garrett, were extremely helpful and forthcoming with any assistance we needed.
Additionally, Kohl's has, throughout the year, supported Kiwanis with cash grants in support of our other fundraising events. Kohl's continues to be an active member of the Santa Cruz community, and Surf City Santa Cruz Kiwanis thanks them for their commitment to serving the community.

Thank you from Save Our Shores
Save Our Shores wants to thank the community that helped support our work this year. Despite unprecedented cuts to our state and federal funding, we were able to keep our programs running stronger than ever. A special thanks to one of our most supportive funders who recently increased their grant funding to us when they realized what good work SOS accomplished this year. This happened in large part because our dear friend of

Heartfelt thanks for horse help
My husband and I want to express our deep appreciation to the Branciforte and Felton fire departments for their valiant effort while trying to save our beautiful 36-year-old horse who had become stuck in deep mud in our pasture. Unfortunately the length of time and his age were against him even though the Coast Equine vet did her best as well. They all worked so very hard to save him and have our heartfelt thanks for a huge effort. We really miss that wonderful old horse looking out at the world from his stall. Thanks again.

Glad to see the Sentinel's sport section give front page recognition to local student-athletes for their Central Coast Section scholastic titles. Teams receive a trophy and an individual certificate presented at their respective CCS sport championships by the CCS commissioner, as well as recognition from their own school. Recognition they've truly earned.
Student-athletes from Mount Madonna, Aptos and Pacific Collegiate School have a good understanding that the primary reason for the sport they play is to provide a forum to learn mental and physical skills, discipline, leadership and sportsmanship. Winning is clearly secondary to developing those skills and attitudes. Their high marks in the classroom, show it.

Christmas Train a wonderful treat
A huge thanks to those running the Christmas Train. The ride was so exciting for both myself and my kids. The train was packed full of happy, laughing kids of all ages. We were entertained with dancing elves, music, and hot cocoa with a cookie, topped off with a surprise visit from Santa.
Stopping and talking to every child, Santa gave each one a book with the same story that was read to us aloud. The boys loved the fact we went right by our house heading for Christmas Town. The train runs only until 6, and they will leave around Dec. 15. Hopefully this letter will shed light on the event behind the loud horn. All the kids were lit up like Christmas trees and my family will cherish the trip for years to come.
