SC Warriors arena a blight
I totally agree with Nita Hertel's assessment of the new arena. Santa Cruz is starting to join the major cities that use closed door politics and questionable ethics to usher in a deal that enriches a few, disenfranchises those living within yards of the new arena, and leaves little to art or innovation. While I love the sport of basketball I could never support a cause that created a coffin-like environment for the people living at the bottom of depot hill. Our supervisors should be made to spend a few weeks in those units. They could use the time to learn ways to launder money.

NRA's response to shootings
I have never been so angered at a national organization as I am with the NRA and the ridiculous response to the shooting of 26 deaths in Newtown, Conn. and basing the response in regards to the Second Amendment. When the writers of the Second Amendment were writing this they never conceived of assault weapons, and multi bullet ammunition clips now used to cause tremendous loss of innocent life. Its purpose was to provide the means of assembling a militia of armed citizens to protect the local citizens in times of war. We now have trained professionals for that task. Second, what hunter needs an assault weapon for hunting? Its sole purpose is for killing as many people as possible in as short
