Stop the cycle -- bring sanity to our gun laws

Here we go again! We have another horrible shooting of innocents by a deranged individual. And once again, the predictable is taking place.

There's outrage and a loud demand for laws and regulations to bring sanity to the gun culture in this country. And simultaneously, the gun advocate industry, with the NRA among the more prominent, is marshaling its forces and money to short-circuit any attempt to rationalize the sale and use of guns. We see these two sides squaring off every time there's a disaster similar to what took place in Connecticut.

The gun advocates know that if they spend enough, lobby hard enough and pressure politicians enough the furor over the demand for sanity in the sale and use of guns will soon die down. And when that happens we'll continue to see guns proliferate in our society and continue to cause the pain and suffering that is so prevalent.

It's time for our nation to wake up and take control of a situation that's been out of control for a very long time. We have to listen to the clear, definitive message from the disaster that just occurred in Connecticut and for the social good, bring sanity to the types of weapons that are allowed, the sales of all weapons and the enactment of very severe penalties for those who sell or buy weapons outside the law.
