Yes! A new slogan for Santa Cruz!
Malanie Defe's letter "Time for Santa Cruz to pick a new slogan" that better reflects who we are today is a great idea. The 21st century has seen Santa Cruz evolve from being weird to focusing on the environment and natural farming. We need to address this change in ID by shedding the old and bringing in the new with "Keep Santa Cruz Natural."

Instead of 'Keep Santa Cruz Weird'
How about simply, "Keep Santa Cruz Clean?"

Jyler Raines' sentence too harsh
I am very upset about the harsh sentencing of Jyler Raines. I don't know Jyler Raines. If he had not been a first-time offender, hooked up with a chronic offender, I might see this differently. I think this was way too punitive for a remorseful young man who could be an excellent candidate for rehabilitation within his own community. I sincerely hope the courts will take a second look at this case.

Decinzo did not belong on Easter
Leave it to your newspaper to allow someone with such little knowledge about Christianity to put a political "cartoon" in the paper on Easter, the most holy day to Christians. Not only would Christ come back but would again to teach you ways to live your life better so that all the hatred might go away, obvious to me it would do DeCinzo no good. The use and publishing of the swastika on Easter is about as bad as liberal/progressives can get, always trying to put Christianity in a negative light. Putting Sarah Palin in among all this hate just shows how hateful DeCinzo is and why he should not be in a community newspaper. She lives her faith, and liberal/progressives attack her for that very reason. Allowing this kind of garbage to be published on a holy day is something Jesus might forgive, the rest of us might think twice.

Decinzo cartoon hit nail on head
Loved the clever and well-drawn cartoon, "Desal water Show," by Decinzo in the Sunday issue. This certainly reflects my views of the desal plant proposed for Santa Cruz. With the Loch Lomond reservoir overflowing its spillway, city officials are calling for yet another year of water shortages. When are we in Santa Cruz going to demand construction of the Zayante dam or other water retaining measures? Add the desal plant to the rail trail boondoggle. Neither makes any sense.

I am fairly certain that violent criminals and the homeless do not research town motto's before deciding where to commit a violent act or set up an encampment. Santa Cruz is weird. Weird is not a bad thing. Violence is. The two are not related, except under the guise of a good old-fashioned witch hunt.

Commuter train or pavement
Prop. 116 was voted on 23 years ago! After all the time, money and studying, what have we gotten? Older and wiser about clean and inexpensive transportation. Let's get the bike/pedestrian trail paved adjacent to the rails now, so we can start using this amazing railroad corridor. I would be proud to live a town that has a rail trail like Monterey or Seattle.
