Stanford graduates Bob and Mike Bryan will finish the year ranked as the No. 1 ATP doubles pair for a record seventh time.

The 33-year-old twins' first-round win at the Valencia (Spain) Open on Wednesday means they can't be overtaken by No. 2 Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic.

Each of the twins has been ranked No. 1 in the individual doubles rankings for 265 weeks and will overtake John McEnroe's record of 270 on Dec. 12.

Mixed martial arts

Nick Diaz and B.J. Penn each earned a $75,000 bonus for their bout at UFC 137 in Las Vegas on Saturday. Diaz, who trains at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Pleasant Hill, scored a unanimous decision over Penn. UFC president Dana White also said Diaz will fight Georges St. Pierre at a UFC event Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas.

Soccer

The Earthquakes' David Bingham (Cal High/Cal) was one of four goalkeepers invited to the U.S. Olympic training camp Nov. 7-16 in Duisburg, Germany. San Francisco's Sebastian Lletget, a midfielder who plays for West Ham's developmental team, also was among the 31 players invited. The U.S.'s new under-23 coach is Caleb Porter, who also coaches defending NCAA champion Akron. Because of Porter's college commitments, USSF youth technical director Claudio Reyna will run the camp. Regional qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics starts in March.

Sailing

Luna Rossa Challenge and Prada are back in the 2013 America's Cup, Golden Gate Yacht Club announced. With the late Italian additions, there are eight foreign challengers for the Cup, which will be defended in 2013 on San Francisco Bay by Oracle Racing.

Motor sports

The FIA World Touring Car Championship will compete on U.S. soil for the first time in 2012 with a Sept. 23 race at Infineon Raceway. Support races Sept. 21-22 at the 2.52-mile road course will be announced at a later date.

Track and field

Former Stanford star Sara (Bei) Hall will end the 2011 season Saturday at the Dash to the Finish 5K in New York. Hall won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Pan American Games last week in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Colleges

The Cal women's basketball team, under first-year coach Lindsay Gottlieb, will host NAIA Vanguard in an exhibition game Thursday at Haas Pavilion. Tipoff is 7 p.m.

  • The Stanford men's golf team placed sixth at the Gifford Collegiate with a 1,107 total at CordeValle Resort. The Cardinal finished 50 shots behind winner USC. Stanford's Patrick Rodgers tied for 10th at 2-over 215 -- 13 shots behind medalist Steve Lim of USC.

  • Cal State East Bay forward Eugenie Foote (College Park High) was named second team All-CCAA in women's soccer. East Bay forward Javier Martin (Mt. Eden High) was named honorable mention on the men's side.
