Bach, 33, enters his third Olympics with his third doubles partner. But this one partner is special: Tony Gunawan, a former Olympic champion and two-time world champion from Indonesia. Gunawan became a U.S. citizen in September and can now compete for the United States. Bach, who lives in Southern California near Gunawan, grew up in San Francisco after emigrating from Vietnam in 1982 at age 2. He worked as a delivery boy for his family's laundry and dry cleaning business. Bach's father introduced him to badminton at the Golden Gate YMCA at age 5. Eleven years later Bach, then 16, left the city to live at the U.S. Olympic Committee training center in Colorado Springs, Colo. "The Olympics gave me a vision," he once said. "You need that. If you don't have a goal, you can't hit the target."
