Former Oakland High star Damian Lillard, the sixth overall pick in the June draft, had 23 points and 11 assists in his NBA debut for the host Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night.

Lillard's big night came as the Blazers handed the Los Angeles Lakers a 116-106 defeat, the second in a row to open the season for the Lakers.

Dwight Howard scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Lakers, who lost to Dallas on Tuesday. The troubles continued to mount as new point guard Steve Nash was lost to what appeared to be a leg injury late in the first half.

Nicolas Batum had 26 points, and the Blazers led by as many as 19.

Nash, acquired by the Lakers this summer, collided with Lillard and limped to the locker room. Lillard finished 7-for-17 shooting.
