Senior guard Kevin Foster made seven 3-point shots and scored 27 points to lead Santa Clara to a 106-66 victory over Simpson in the Broncos' season opener Saturday at the Leavey Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Broncos were Robert Garrett with 14 points, Marc Trasolini with 13 and Raymond Cowells with 12. Foster also led SCU with nine assists.
Santa Clara scored 53 points in each half.
Guy Valsek led Simpson (1-4) with 23 points.
Simpson had 20 turnovers, compared to just two for Santa Clara. The Broncos scored 33 points off turnovers, and had a 46-12 scoring advantage off the bench.
Saint Mary's 95, Sonoma State 69: Matthew Dellavedova scored 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting to help the host Gaels defeat the Seawolves in Saint Mary's season opener.
Stephen Holt added 12 points and Brad Waldrow and Mitchell Young scored 11 each for Saint Mary's.
Dellavedova, who also had five assists and five steals, led a 10-0 run to start the game by hitting two 3-pointers. The Gaels led 48-24 at halftime.
Will Olsem scored 15 points for Sonoma State (0-2).
Missouri 83, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 69:
Phil Pressey scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half, and Alex Oriakhi, part of a strong transfer class, had 15 rebounds for Missouri.
Notre Dame 58, Evansville 49: Jack Cooley scored the first nine points of the game and finished with 19, Scott Martin had 17 rebounds, and the No. 22 Fighting Irish beat the visiting Purple Aces in a season opener.
Arizona State 79, Central Arkansas 64: Jordan Bachynski had 17 points and 11 rebounds to help the host Sun Devils open with a win over the Bears.
Oregon 83, Northern Arizona 73: Tony Woods scored 14 points, including an emphatic dunk late in the game to put the host Ducks up for good in a season-opening victory over the Lumberjacks.
Washington State 88, Eastern Washington 69: Brock Motum scored 23 points help the host Cougars beat the Eagles in a season opener.
Kentucky 90, Delaware State 50: A'dia Mathies scored 16 points and Cal transfer DeNesha Stallworth had 11 in her Kentucky debut as the No. 6 Wildcats routed the visiting Hornets.
The game served as a tuneup for Kentucky, which plays top-ranked Baylor on Tuesday.
UCLA 66, San Diego State 52: Markel Walker scored 15 points to help the host Bruins to a season-opening victory over the Aztecs.
