Stanford, Cal, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara all received bids to the NCAA women's volleyball tournament Sunday.
The Bears were invited despite a 15-15 record. The Pac-12 champion Cardinal (27-3) was awarded the No. 2 overall seed in the 64-team field, while the Gaels (17-10) and Broncos (20-11) also received at-large bids.
Cal's strong RPI of 39 and wins over two top-10 teams helped its cause.
The Bears were slotted in the Berkeley Regional but will travel to a subregional at Iowa State, where they will play North Carolina (25-5) on Thursday. Iowa State (20-7) plays Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne (25-6), with the winners meeting Friday. If Cal advances past the second round, it will return home for a regional at Haas Pavilion on Dec. 7-8.
Stanford is slotted in the Berkeley Regional. It'll play Jackson State (24-11) at Maples Pavilion on Friday at 8 p.m. Western Kentucky (32-3) and Loyola Marymount (18-12) will meet at 5:30. The winners will play Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Gaels will face San Diego State (23-7) in Los Angeles on Thursday, with the winner playing either Fairfield (22-8) or host USC (27-5). They are in the Austin (Texas) Regional.
Santa Clara will be play Hawaii (25-2) in
No. 2 UCLA (27-4) posted a 10-9 triple-overtime win over No. 4 Stanford (16-7) for third place. Daniel Lenhart netted the golden goal in the third OT. Bret Bonanni and BJ Churnside had two goals each for Stanford.
USC, Air Force and St. Francis qualified for this week's NCAA tournament, also at USC. UCLA was awarded the at-large bid.
