Michael Carter-Williams had 11 points and 11 assists, freshman Jerami Grant had a season-high 11 points and two blocks, and No. 4 Syracuse beat visiting Eastern Michigan 84-48 on Monday night.

Syracuse (6-0) has won 48 straight nonconference games and boosted its home winning streak to 26 games.

Eastern Michigan (5-2) and the Orange had met just twice before, the last time also an 84-48 Syracuse victory a year ago in the Carrier Dome.

Calhoun reveals cancer treatment: Former Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun revealed that he had surgery in May to remove an apparent cancerous growth from his lungs. Calhoun mentioned the surgery while taping an episode of YES Network's Center Stage with Michael Kay in New York. Calhoun told YES that doctors removed the growth, concerned it might be related to a previous skin cancer.

Utah: University of Utah officials will honor the legacy of the late Rick Majerus by hanging a replica of his trademark white sweater from the rafters at the basketball arena where he coached from 1989 to 2004 and regularly led the Utes to the NCAA tournament. Majerus died Saturday. A moment of silence will be held at Utah's next game Wednesday.

AP poll: Indiana, Duke and Michigan remained the top three teams in The Associated Press' college basketball poll. Indiana, which has been No. 1 since the preseason poll, saw its lead over Duke shrink a little bit. The Hoosiers (8-0) received 45 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel, two fewer than last week. Duke (8-0) for the second straight week had the other first-place votes.

Women's basketball

AP poll: Stanford remains No. 1 in the AP women's poll, narrowly ahead of Connecticut.

The Cardinal had 22 first-place votes, and UConn had 17. Baylor received the other one. Stanford easily won its two games this week, routing UC Davis and Gonzaga. Cal (6-1), which lost to No. 4 Duke on Sunday, dropped one spot to No. 11.

Connecticut 63, Maryland 48: Stefanie Dolson scored 14 points and Breanna Stewart added 13 to lead the No. 2 Huskies (7-0) to a home victory over the No. 9 Terrapins (4-2) in the Jimmy V Classic.
