Sources told ESPN that athletic director Barry Alvarez will be on the sideline when Wisconsin plays Stanford in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1 as a one-game comeback to coaching.
The Wisconsin State Journal reported team captains asked Alvarez to coach the team, and he agreed to do so.
Alvarez has a news conference set for Thursday.
"I just heard that before I came here, which would be awesome," Bret Bielema said Wednesday during his introduction as Arkansas' new coach.
Alvarez was Bielema's predecessor at Wisconsin.
Bielema will be paid $3.2 million annually for six years. Arkansas will also pay his $1 million buyout to Wisconsin.

There's enough evidence to pursue assault and battery charges against a former Cal Poly and Oakland Raiders assistant football coach, a San Luis Obispo Superior Court judge determined. According to police reports, a heavily intoxicated Randy Hanson had been partying in Pismo Beach on Aug. 3 when he struck a man with a beer bottle. The alleged victim suffered a broken nose, according to police reports. Hanson resigned from his Cal Poly position 11 days after his arrest. His next hearing is Jan. 16.
