Stephen Holt made his first home game since mid-November a good one, as the Saint Mary's guard scored 17 points to help lead the Gaels men's basketball team to an 82-59 win over Rhode Island on Thursday.
Holt, who hadn't played in McKeon Pavilion since Nov. 18 because of a bruised knee, also added six rebounds for Saint Mary's (9-3) in the win. Matthew Dellavedova had 12 points and 10 assists for the Gaels.
Beau Levesque and James Walker III each chipped in with 14 points and Mitchell Young had 10 to give Saint Mary's five players in double figures.
Xavier Munford led Rhode Island (4-8) with 20 points.
Saint Mary's outrebounded Rhode Island 42-17 and owned a 27-8 advantage on the glass in the first half alone.
Holt scored Saint Mary's first five points of the game.
New Mexico 55, Cincinnati 54: Seven-foot center Alex Kirk scored 15 points and blocked Sean Kilpatrick's shot just before the buzzer, preserving visiting New Mexico's win that handed No. 8 Cincinnati its first loss.
New Mexico (13-1) rallied in the second half behind Kirk, who hit a 3-pointer, got a team-high seven rebounds and slapped away Kilpatrick's jumper off an inbounds play.
Cincinnati (12-1) was trying to go 13-0 for only the sixth time.
BYU 84, Northern Arizona 54: Brandon Davies had 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead host BYU in a defeat of Northern Arizona (4-8). Davies was 13 of 16 from the field for the Cougars (9-4).
