Current Stanford stars Alex Bowen and Bret Bonanni and former Cardinal standout Jeffrey Schwimer were named to the U.S. Senior National Team ahead of the UANA World Aquatic Championship Qualification Tournament.

Bowen, Bonanni and USC's Nikola Vavic are the three current collegians on the U.S. roster. The tournament is Jan. 30-Feb. 3 in Calgary, Alberta.

The racetrack formally known as Infineon Raceway is officially now "Sonoma Raceway," track officials announced.

  • Provided none of his scheduled mounts are scratched, jockey Russell Baze will ride in his 50,000th thoroughbred race Friday afternoon at Golden Gate Fields.

    Baze, who's had 49,994 mounts in his Hall of Fame career, is slated to ride in races one through six. First post is 12:45 p.m., and post time for the sixth race is 3:15 p.m.

  • Cal beat Santa Clara 81-0 on Wednesday night in the Bears' first match at Witter Rugby Field in 33 months. Cal (5-0) celebrates the official reopening of Witter on Saturday against Stanford at 2 p.m.
