Tyler Myers and Ryan Miller helped give Ron Rolston a memorable night.
Myers scored a go-ahead goal early in third period, Miller made 30 saves, and Rolston won for the first time as Buffalo's interim coach in the Sabres' 2-1 victory over the host Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.
"It was great, especially the way it was done," Rolston said. "Just the battle level and the competitive nature we had tonight was outstanding. You could just feel it on the bench, the guys, how dialed in they were. I'm really happy for our team. We've seen a lot of really good signs, and we just needed something to keep us moving in the right direction."
Rolston replaced long-time Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff on Feb. 20.
Stars 5, Blue Jackets 4: Loui Eriksson fought off two defenders to get his stick on a rebound and jammed it in 3:03 into overtime to give Dallas a victory over host Columbus. Eriksson was being held back by a pair of Blue Jackets but reached for the puck as he was falling and whipped it past goalie Sergei Bobrovsky for the winner.
Wild 2, Flames 1: Zach Parise scored 27 seconds into overtime to lift host Minnesota to a win over Calgary. With the Wild sputtering on offense once again, Jason Zucker scored for Minnesota with 4:19 left in regulation to send it to overtime.
Panthers 6, Penguins 4: Tomas Kopecky recorded his first career hat trick and Tomas Fleischmann had the go-ahead score for his 100th career goal, lifting host Florida to a win over Pittsburgh.
Coyotes 4, Canucks 2: Kyle Chipchura scored twice, and Mike Smith made 29 saves to lead Phoenix to a victory over host Vancouver.
Bruins 4, Islanders 1: Brad Marchand scored the goal-ahead in the second period and the Bruins continued their dominance of the host Islanders -- Boston's 16th win in its past 20 games against New York. .
Kings-Flyers trade: The Kings traded Simon Gagne back to the Flyers for a conditional draft pick, sending the struggling left wing back to the city where he had his greatest NHL success. Los Angeles will get a third-round pick if Philadelphia makes the playoffs or a fourth-round pick if the Flyers miss the postseason.
Stars-Canadiens trade: Less than 24 hours after picking up a career-best three assists in a loss at Nashville, the Stars dealt right wing Michael Ryder and a third-round draft pick to the Canadiens for right wing Erik Cole in a swap of veteran forwards.
Devils: The Devils have placed goaltender Martin Brodeur, 40, on injured reserve with a sore back.
