No. 6 Cal is one win away from claiming at least a share of its first Pac-12 title, and Layshia Clarendon has her eye on the prize.
"We want to win the championship," said Clarendon, who had 26 points as Cal beat Washington State 73-60 on Thursday. "We're one game away."
Cal (26-2, 16-1) kept pace with No. 4 Stanford in the Pac-12. The Bears end the regular season Saturday at Washington.
The Cougars (10-18, 6-11) scored the first two baskets of the second half, but Cal went on a 12-2 run to take a 54-41 lead.
Stanford 71, Washington 36: Chiney Ogwumike had 24 points and 13 rebounds, and the No. 4 Cardinal (27-2, 16-1 Pac-12) raced past the host Huskies (19-9, 11-6). Stanford is at Washington State on Saturday. The Huskies played without Jazmine Davis, Talia Walton and Deborah Meeks, who were suspended for one game by coach Kevin McGuff for violating team rules.
Saint Mary's 65, Santa Clara 56: Danielle Mauldin had 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 16 rebounds, leading the host Gaels (19-8, 11-4 WWC) over the Broncos (14-14, 6-9). Nici Gilday scored 13 points for Santa Clara.
USF 67, Pepperdine 57: Mel Khlok had 23 points, leading the host Dons (11-17,
San Jose St. 71, UT-Arlington 49: Ta'Rea Cunnigan had 28 points, leading the host Spartans (10-16, 7-8 WAC) to a rout of the Mavericks (6-20, 3-12).
UT-Arlington 81, San Jose St. 74: Louis Garrett had 25 points, but the visiting Spartans (9-17, 3-12 WAC) suffered their 11th loss in a row. D.J. Brown added 16 points for San Jose State, which hasn't won since top scorer James Kinney was suspended for academic reasons. The Mavericks (16-10, 10-5) had a 49-8 scoring edge off the bench.
Santa Clara 79, Loyola Marymount 56: Senior Matt Trasolini had 26 points on 9-for-12 shooting, leading the Broncos (21-9, 9-6 WCC) to a rout of the Lions (8-21, 1-14) on Senior Night at the Leavey Center. Fellow senior Kevin Foster added 17 points.
USF 83, San Diego 70: Cole Dickerson had 24 points to lead the host Dons (14-15, 7-9 WCC) over the Toreros (13-17, 6-9).
Gonzaga 70, BYU 65: Kelly Olynyk had 19 points, Gary Bell Jr. hit four 3-pointers, and the No. 2 Bulldogs (28-2, 15-0 WCC) edged the host Cougars (20-10, 9-6). Gonzaga led by 11 points with 10:51 left, but BYU fought back. BYU had one final chance with 6.6 seconds left and down three, but Gonzaga fouled Craig Cusick before he could attempt a 3-pointer.
Oregon 85, Oregon St. 75: Carlos Emory had 21 points and the No. 24 Ducks (23-6, 12-4 Pac-12) beat the visiting Beavers (13-16, 3-13). Dominic Artis, who missed the past nine games with a foot injury, gave Oregon the lead for good with a 3-pointer that made it 55-52 at the 11:29 mark.
Virginia 73, Duke 68: Joe Harris had 36 points and the host Cavaliers (20-8, 10-5 ACC) upset the No. 3 Blue Devils (22-4, 11-4).
Louisiana Tech 84, Utah St. 61: Brandon Gibson had 20 points, and the No. 25 Bulldogs (25-3, 15-0 WAC) beat the visiting Aggies (19-8, 9-6).
