Cal announced Friday that new football coach Sonny Dykes' five-year contract is valued at $9.7 million, or an average of $1.94 million per season.
The financial support for Dykes' contract is provided by Cal athletic department self-generated revenue.
Dykes was hired Dec. 5 to replace Jeff Tedford, who was fired after 11 seasons.

School-record performances by Julia Craddock in the 400-yard individual medley (4 minutes, 16.47 seconds) and Ashlyn Acosta in the 100 butterfly (54.08) pushed San Jose State to the lead at the Western Athletic Conference women's swimming championships in San Antonio.
