Cal announced Friday that new football coach Sonny Dykes' five-year contract is valued at $9.7 million, or an average of $1.94 million per season.

The financial support for Dykes' contract is provided by Cal athletic department self-generated revenue.

Dykes was hired Dec. 5 to replace Jeff Tedford, who was fired after 11 seasons.

Mark Appel pitched a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts in leading host Stanford to a 2-0 victory over Texas.

    Lindsay Ziegenhirt hit a grand slam in the first inning and a three-run home run in the second as Cal routed Cal Poly 11-3 at the Easton Invitational in Fullerton.The Bears also beat Northwestern, 2-0, as Jolene Henderson pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts.

    School-record performances by Julia Craddock in the 400-yard individual medley (4 minutes, 16.47 seconds) and Ashlyn Acosta in the 100 butterfly (54.08) pushed San Jose State to the lead at the Western Athletic Conference women's swimming championships in San Antonio.

  • Maya Dirado won the 400-yard individual medley in 4 minutes, 0.58 seconds, helping Stanford finish the day in first place in the Pac-12 women's swimming championships in Federal Way, Wash.

    Cal is second after getting victories from Rachael Acker in the 200 freestyle in 1:44.66 and Rachel Bootsma in the 100 backstroke in meet-record 50.64 seconds.

    Stanford's Kristian Ipsen won the 1-meter title with a score of 442.15 in the Pac-12 men's diving championships.

  • The Stanford distance medley relay team of Tyler Stutzman (1,200 meters), Spencer Chase (400), Luke Lefebure (800) and Michael Atchoo (1,600) broke the school record, finishing third in 9 minutes, 28.25 seconds in the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
