Starting Earthquakes forward Mike Fucito suffered a gash in his foot that required stitches and is questionable for the weekend game at Columbus, coach Frank Yallop said Tuesday. If Fucito can't play Saturday, Yallop probably would use second-year forward Sam Garza or rookie Adam Jahn of Stanford.
Fucito's injury came during San Jose's 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Sunday. Fucito played despite suffering from a tight hamstring in the season opener two weeks ago. The new Quakes player earned a starting assignment this year because target forwards Steven Lenhart and Alan Gordon are recovering from offseason injuries and are not available.
Trey Cheek, a cornerback from Lawrenceville, Ga., has signed a letter of intent to play football at Cal. He is the 26th recruit in the Bears' 2013 signing class.
Quessenberry ran a 5.08-second 40-yard dash at the combine and had the third-best time in the 20-yard shuttle drill, completing it in 4.45 seconds.
