Ilya Kovalchuk capped New Jersey's three-goal first period with his NHL-leading fourth short-handed goal, and the host Devils beat the mistake-prone Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 on Wednesday night.
Patrik Elias and Adam Henrique, who scored twice, also tallied in the opening period as the Devils beat the Flyers for the third time in three games this season.
The win was the third in four games for the Devils after a six-game losing streak that dropped the defending Eastern Conference champions close to the eighth-place cutoff for the playoffs.
"Obviously, we had a tough stretch there," said Henrique. " ... We're a confident group. We just needed to stick to our systems and play our game."
Flames 5, Red Wings 2: Lee Stempniak scored the winning goal in the third period and added an assist in host Calgary's win over Detroit.
Ducks: Anaheim right wing Corey Perry has been suspended for four games without pay by the NHL for a high, late check on Minnesota's Jason Zucker.
