Stanford junior Michael Atchoo ran the second-fastest 1,500-meter time -- 3 minutes, 38.57 seconds -- by an American this season to finish fourth at the Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford on Sunday.

Santa Rosa native Kim Conley won the women's 5,000 in 15:22.07.

Women's tennis

Stanford freshman Krista Hardebeck lost 6-1, 6-0 to UCLA's Kyle McPhillips in the Pac-12 Championship division finals in Ojai.

Cardinal sophomore Ellen Tsay fell 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to USC's Kaitlyn Christian in the Invitational division finals.

Women's water polo

Stanford fell into a five-goal deficit after one quarter and couldn't climb out, losing 11-7 to USC in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title game in Berkeley.

Melissa Seidemann led the Cardinal with three goals.

In the fifth-place game, Emily Csikos scored a goal to help Cal defeat San Jose State 12-8. She leaves the Cal program with a school-record 215 career goals.

Anna Natalizio led the Spartans with four goals.

  • Alison Norris and Julia Peters had three goals each as host Santa Clara defeated Colorado State 12-7 in the third-place game of the WWPA tournament.

    Baseball

    Brenden Farney scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the 14th inning as Cal defeated Washington 6-5 in Seattle.

    Farney started the rally with a one-out single, went to second when Andrew Knapp drew a walk and reached third on a groundout.

  • A squeeze play competed Oregon's two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth as the Ducks beat Stanford 4-3.

  • Seattle opened the scoring with a five-run fifth inning and held on for a 6-3 victory over host San Jose State.

    Softball

    Hannah Winter, Kayla Bonstrom, Jenna Rich and Erin Ashby each hit a home run as Stanford routed visiting Utah 9-1 in a five-inning game.

  • Arizona used a four-run third inning to secure a 5-3 victory over visiting Cal.
